Paris – The Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO) participated in the 9th Edition of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Environmental Forum, held in Paris, French, on September from 15 to 16, 2026.
Over the course of two days, the forum served as a platform to exchange expertise and discuss the most prominent environmental challenges and opportunities in the aviation sector, particularly:
- Decarbonization to achieve the net-zero emissions goal, alongside methods to further reduce aircraft emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter.
- Initial experiences with policies to boost demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and the challenges related to scaling up its production capacity.
- Aviation noise issues, their impacts, and mitigation strategies.
- Lessons learned from testing and practical trials of zero-emission aircraft, as well as the comprehensive ecosystem—including infrastructure, technologies, operations, and appropriate regulatory frameworks—required for their large-scale deployment.
As part of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization's participation in the forum, a presentation was delivered highlighting the Organization's efforts in promoting environmental protection within the aviation sector. The presentation reviewed its key activities and initiatives in this field, as well as its position on certain international issues related to emissions trading systems and their impacts on the aviation industry. Additionally, the representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Organization's Environment Committee gave a presentation on the latest developments regarding the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production and development project in Egypt, outlining national efforts to scale up production and enhance the aviation sector's readiness to transition toward more sustainable solutions.
On the sidelines of the forum, bilateral meetings were held with several representatives of international and regional organizations, as well as aviation industry institutions. These meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to enhance technical cooperation and develop joint initiatives with the Organization. Discussions also covered their potential participation in upcoming ACAO events, most notably the 3rd Arab Aviation Environmental Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Rabat from November 30 to December 2, 2026.
