The first plane landed at Guelmim airport new terminal building, after His Majesty King Mohammed VI a lauched its operations.
The passengers of the flight departing from Casablanca were hosted by a delegation headed by the governor of the province of Guelmim, Mr. Mohammed Najem Abhay, and the Director General of the National Airports Authority, Mr. Zouhair Mohamed El Oufir.
The Director General of the National Airports Authority confirmed in a press statement, on this occasion, that the new terminal building of Guelmim airport falls within the framework of investments led by the National Airports Authority in order to increase the capacity of regional airports, noting that the capacity of this new station is now up to 700 thousand passengers.
Mr. El Oufir added that this important project has a positive impact on the area of ??Guelmim and Oued Nun and on the air transport strategy adopted by ONDA, especially as it is an airport designed according to the best engineering and technical standards with a total investment value of 273.5 million dirhams.
The new terminal building project at Guelmim airport has expanded and upgraded the aircraft´s movement to accommodate Boeing 747 aircraft, reinforced the flight airstrip and its wings, built a stand for aircraft to accommodate four medium-sized aircraft, and created taxiways to link the runway with the new aircraft parking positions.
The new 7,000 square meter surface facility has 2,000 square meters of buildings (technical wing, administrative buildings and fire-fighting unit) and a parking lot with a capacity of 290 cars.
It has also been equipped with state-of-the-art technology in accordance with the standards adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which will enable passengers to benefit from the best conditions in terms of care and comfort.
In addition to the governor and director general of the National Airports Authority, elected officials, dignitaries, civil and military personalities and local actors also participated in the opening ceremony of the inaugural flight of this new air station.
