Within the framework of the contribution of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization to the wide-ranging efforts and measures undertaken by the International Civil Aviation Organization and Member States to mitigate climate pollution caused by aviation, the Arab Civil Aviation Organization organized a workshop on "Solid Waste Management and Local Air Quality at the Airport", through video conference, from 25 to 28 October 2021.
This workshop witnessed the participation of 60 officials in charge of environmental protection for civil aviation authorities, airport authorities, airlines in the Arab region, and environmental stakeholders, representing 11 member states of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
In his opening speech of this workshop, His Excellency Eng. Abdennebi Manar, Director General of the Organization, called for the need to open a discussion on the challenges and difficulties faced by Arab countries in managing solid waste and maintaining local air quality at airports, and exchanging experiences and best practices among the participants.
This workshop focused on procedures and measures for waste prevention, sorting, recycling and disposing, as well as on how to assess local air quality and what measures and actions are necessary to improve air quality;
In its last day, the workshop was marked by a session during which some country representatives reviewed their experiences with regard to solid waste management and management, as well as some practices to improve local air quality.
