Rabat - The Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization held its sixty-second meeting in Rabat, headed by His Excellency Dr. Muhammad bin Nasser bin Ali Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Executive Council, CEO of the General Authority of Civil Aviation of the Sultanate of Oman. Members of the Council and a representative of the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the Director General of the organization attended the meeting. The President confirmed the importance of the meeting and the topics listed on the agenda, and he also congratulated His Excellency Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, President of Civil Aviation in the sisterly State of Kuwait, for his election as First Vice-President of the ICAO General Assembly at its 40th session, held in Montreal - Canada from September 24 to October 4, 2019. He also congratulated the Member States elected to serve at the ICAO Council for the second and third categories for the period 2019-2022.
His Excellency Engineer / Abdenbi Manar, Director General of the Organization, submitted a report on the activities and work of the General Directorate of the Organization. He started by thanking the members of the Executive Council for their continuous support to the General Directorate of the Organization, and the General Secretariat of the Arab League for its participation in this session and its eagerness to contribute to promoting joint Arab action. He also highlighted the most important achievements of the organization and its technical activities, and the actions undertaken by the General Directorate to follow up on the implementation of the decisions issued by the organization´s extraordinary general assembly and its executive board at its previous session.
The meeting discussed a number of topics included in the agenda and recommendations raised within the reports following the meetings of the technical committees of the organization, and the emerging items on the agenda, where a set of decisions and recommendations were adopted, the most important of which was the recommendations of the Air Transport Committee issued at its forty-second meeting, the Air Navigation Committee at its forty-first meeting, the Air Safety Committee at its forty-third meeting, and the Aviation Security Committee at its thirtieth session, as well as the Environment Committee at its seventeenth meeting.
The Executive Council recommended the adoption of the recommendations of the Committee of Experts on the Development of the Work of the Organization, whereby the general strategy of the Organization for the period 2020-2022, as well as a proposal for a new organizational structure for the organization. The meeting also discussed the draft manual for the technical committees prepared at the previous meeting of the Committee of Experts, and the mechanism for managing the Technical Support Fund in the field of civil aviation, which was adopted at the previous meeting of the Executive Council.
In conclusion, the council had decided to adopt the date and place of the next session of the Executive Council and the General Assembly at its regular session.
