Workshop on the Supervision of performance-based navigation (PBN Ops Oversight) Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco 25-27 November 2019

Within the framework of improving coordination between civil aviation activities in the region and uniting efforts to enhance safety, absorptive capacity, navigation and safety efficiency, and to improve coordination and continuous cooperation with the civil aviation authorities and air navigation service providers, the Arab Civil Aviation Organization organized a workshop on "Supervision of navigation PBN Ops Oversight in cooperation with the General Directorate of French Civil Aviation in Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco from 25 to 27 November 2019.

 

HE Eng. Abdul Nabi Manar, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, who welcomed all participants, highlighting the importance of this workshop to raise the level of civil aviation personnel, especially in the field of air navigation, aircraft licensing and air operations supervisors, inaugurated the workshop. He also stressed the necessary commitment and cooperation with similar regional and international organizations and semen aviation authorities to overcome the challenges in various fields of civil aviation. He reminded the attendees of the aim of the workshop i.e. to present the concept of performance-based navigation operations in order to determine the required operational performance in an airfield, route or procedure and the various stages of supervision required by the Civil Aviation Authorities.

 

Performance-based navigation (PBN) is one of the key tools to improve the safety and efficiency of CNS / ATM systems and the approval procedure. Operational PBN Ensure oversight of all PBN operations in accordance with national regulations and related operational processes.

 

 

One of the main advantages of entering into performance-based navigation is to improve the safety of operations on the road and approaching and landing areas, reduce infrastructure costs, increase the use of airspace and mitigate the environmental impact by reducing emissions and potentially reducing noise exposure.

 

Thirty (30) participants consisting of air traffic controllers and inspectors from civil aviation authorities attended the workshop.
