Rabat - The Arab Civil Aviation Organization organized a workshop on "Civil Aviation Security Culture", through visual communication technology, from 03 to 05 May 2021, with the participation of 50 executives from the Arab member states of the organization representing 15 countries.
In his speech on the occasion, His Excellency Eng. Abdenbi Manar, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, called on the participants to enhance awareness and spread a culture of security among all employees and workers, especially those in charge of the implementation of security measures in order to understand the security risks that their institutions are exposed to. He also called for the exchange of information and best practices to face security challenges at the regional level, including the implications of the Corona pandemic on civil aviation security, in terms of possible increase of the internal threat by terrorists exploiting employees and workers who are exposed to financial pressures or job uncertainty and loss concerns, luring them to reveal sensitive data and weaknesses of the security system.
The participants in this workshop reflected on the concept of security culture, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s pursued objective by stating the year 2021 as the Year of Security Culture (YOSC). They also reflected on the advantages of spreading a culture of security as well as the tools for enhancing the security culture and means for building and spreading this culture and measuring its effective performance.
It is worth noting that this workshop falls within the framework of the efforts made by the Arab Civil Aviation Organization with the aim of contributing to the spread of a security culture in line with ICAO's initiative to consider the year 2021 as the "Year of Security Culture."
