Session 5: Cyber Threats and Risks in Aviation Security: encouraging aviation stakeholders to work together on the discovery, research and mitigation of cyber threats

Civil aviation is the most interconnected system of information and communication technology. Cyber-attacks are increasing in quantity and persistence, so the consequences of a successful malicious cyber attack on civil aviation operations today could be severe. New technologies, the extension of connectivity and their integration into the aviation industry, increase the risk to these critical assets.
This session will discuss the cyber threat, and analyze possible targets and risks involved, and consider how cooperation can help establish a holistic strategy of defense, prevention and response.

Most current ANS/ATM systems are vulnerable. ANS/ATM systems are moving towards introducing more and more digitalisation thanks to new technologies and concepts using non-aviation specific means (e.g. Cloud, 5G, Internet, satellite communications and navigation). This will inevitably increase the number of aviation actors potentially impacted by a cyber attack.
This session will discuss how now lies in making aviation systems/services progressively more and more cyber-resilient while remaining safe and cost-effective.
